My brother and his wife asked me to make a wedding contract for their Quaker wedding. I was honored and thrilled. Part of the process in a Quaker wedding is that all who attend sign a wedding contract witnessing the vows. I made this drypoint etching for them. The border of the piece is a collaged topography of all of the places that they have ever lived as well as the location of the ceremony at Steep Hill Beach in Ipswich, MA. The signatures in the middle are from all of the guests in attendance. Despite very clear instructions, certain folks strayed off of the lines and into the white spots that I had tried to maintain for compositional balance. All of those miscreant folk were from the "Bright" side of the wedding party.
