In the wintertime, Ro took me for walks to visit a miniature donkey, a regular size one, and a few sheep. These walks, and our daily petting zoo, were our whiff of adult companionship in the child-crazed (crazy-childed?) world of working at a rural boarding school, and they were my respite from crazytown. Our goodbye gifts to one another corresponded - sheep. I made her this hat to keep warm (and to match her tall grey knee high boots!), and she made me a small and beautiful cement sheep figure to take with me to my new home, far away from wooly things.
