My students and I found some yucky bones found alongside the edge of a country road where I used to teach and live. When they first saw the bones, they screamed with equal parts horror and glee, Ewwww!!!! Ms Bright!!! Make something from this!! I said okay. Later on, dragging these bones home and cleaning them, I thought about these girls, and the things they grapple with, that many women grapple with, that I grapple with too, about our bodies and ourselves. We all do it differently to be sure. This lantern is what came out of that thinking. The title is For the Real Girls since they inspired it and me.
